Selling Engagement Rings
Selling Your Engagement Ring
An engagement can represent a joyous occasion between loving couples. An engagement ring inspires romance, and traditionally it’s a symbol of everlasting love. It can be one of the most important aspects of a couple’s betrothal and sometimes the prized ring is one that the bride-to-be will love and want to wear. The stone and setting must suit her taste and style, as you live to see the sparkle in your partner’s eyes when you ask them to marry you.
However, it is also human nature that sometimes couples break off the engagement, leading to a lot of hurt feelings.
Why you should sell your engagement ring
If the relationship ends, you are often left with the engagement ring and a broken heart. All you want to do is get rid of any reminders of the previous engagement.
You could take the ring and cast it into the lake of fire - Mordor style. (That only works if there is a lake of fire or an active volcano nearby).
In all seriousness though, an engagement ring is usually an expensive affair, so you are better off just selling it and using that money for something positive. If you still want to get back at the person who broke your heart, then you can do something they truly hated with that money or do something you genuinely love, to get you on the healing path.
A broken heart is not the only reason to sell an engagement ring, however, as there are many other reasons.
- Family Heirlooms : A bride or groom-to-be may consider offering his fiancé a family heirloom rather than purchasing a ring from a jewelry store. If an antique engagement ring has been passed down to him from his mother or grandmother, this would be an excellent way of welcoming the new bride into the family. An antique engagement ring represents the history of the family, the continuation of the family name, and has connotations and meaning that no ready-to-wear ring can have. However, due to other circumstances, the ring may become obsolete or unwanted, and someone may choose to sell it instead, and use the money to purchase a new ring the future bride will love.
- Financial Reasons : An engagement ring may have a lot of sentimental value, but honestly, in the grand scheme of things, it is just the sentiment. When a family is facing real financial hardships, they may choose to sell the ring to help with their finances. This decision is never a light one.
- Death in the Family : If there is a death in the family, and the person inheriting the ring does not want to keep it for a number of reasons, they might opt to sell the ring and use the money for another purpose. It could also be a part of an inheritance, and depending on the value of the ring, they may have to sell it, and the proceeds divided equally among the recipients of said inheritance.
- Pure Luck : There are many stories on the internet today of people finding engagement rings in the most unusual places. Usually, it’s a kid playing around on the beach or swimming in a lake only to stumble upon the ring. Usually, they will try to publicize it on the news and on social media to try and find the real owners.
Most states have finder’s - keeper’s laws that dictate the amount of time that should lapse during which the original owner must come forward. After that time, the person who found the ring is allowed to do with it what they wish, and most times, they chose to sell it.
